As much as I love the operating system, Linux still leaves me unsatisfied. Don't get me wrong, I love not having to deal with viruses and not having my system gobble up memory like fritos, but I can't find the software I need to work with. For example, theres lots of pencil test software for linux, but none of them actually work without bugs or hiccups.
Take Synfig for example... Do you have any idea how difficult it is to fill in a freehand-drawn oval in that program? what should be as easy as grabbing the paint bucket and touching inside a closed off area is actually a six step process involving copying the line path to a new layer and re-formating that layer to a new paint-bucket-friendly layer... Ktoon is another unfinished offering. Buggy! Pencil? working for 3 minutes in that one and I found the bugs to be too much to deal with.
Now as far as art goes, GNU Image Manipulation Program is pretty nice. Too bad installing fonts in Linux is like pulling teeth! I can't believe dunce-cap windows is smarter than linux when it comes to this. In windows you just drag your true type font to the fonts directory in windows. In linux the process is so complicated it's still debated on whats the best way to do it right! (BTW I've got the fonts installed... every program knows what the fonts names are, but none of the programs can actually use them or display them properly) A graphic user interface should have *some* way to handle stuff like this. Installing programs is another thing. Because there are more types of program packages than I could possibly list installing stuff for me mainly depends on whether I can get my Ubuntu GUI's Synaptic or Debian installation systems to do it for me. But if it's outside of those two's abilities (And it wasn't hard to find stuff that was) you'll have to search through the multitude of package installation faqs to find out how to unpack and install or even compile whatever you've got.<br>
Don't get me wrong, I love doing things the command line way. The problem is that there seems to be tons of ways to do something and not all of those ways are actually going to work for your system! As a matter of fact, I tried 6 completely different ways to install Gimpshop and none of them worked from the instructions! (This is also the case with font installation.)& Someone needs to come up with a standard for linux. It's too flexible, and folks (like me)who don't have time to look under the hood to find where and when and how each spark plug is firing what cylinder, just want to turn the key and drive the thing.
Linux for me is starting to look like a *someday* thing. Where I'll get into it if they make the tools I need someday.

December will be a break from LVL UP. My other comics needs some attention! (Justa heads up!...)
In truth it's easier to do LVL up than any other comic. I don't really have to write all that much or think about development. I just get it and go. This is the primary reason behind LVLUPs frequency.
Just thought you guys should know.
